Art

Contemporary art is many things

…and you don’t have to be good at drawing to attend Art at the European School!

The European School is one of the only gymnasiums in Denmark that offers Art at the A-level, so this is a quite unique opportunity if you are interested in the arts.

Art today spans across everything from the classical skills of painting, sculpture, drawing, and architecture to installation art, digital art, and performance. Much art today is based on good ideas. What matters to a greater extent is your effort and ability to express yourself and reflect on your process.

We will help you open up for and control your creativity. You will learn a lot of different methods and become familiar with many different materials and forms of expression within the artistic field, including design and architecture. You will gain a broader knowledge of the history of art from cave paintings to AI generated art, about distinct artists, styles and different ways of thinking about art.

You collect all your work and reflections in a portfolio, which forms the starting point for your A-mark. You will complete a series of B-tests, which are a more summative form of exam, where you will be assessed on your efforts in connection with a specific artistic problem that you must deal with and, last but not least, you will receive your annual C-mark.

Art is a C-level elective in S5, and if you wish you can choose it as a 4 period/week elective in S6 and S7. If you choose this course, you will achieve Art at the A-level. In this course we go much more in depth with the subject, and you will have the opportunity to specialize in some of the areas that you find most interesting.
